Nothing manifests recession better than decline in basic consumption. Its widely known that we are facing recession in Auto, Media, Metals and everything that requires capex. But we have reached the nadir if we start hearing stories of decline in sales of Hair Oil or Biscuits costing less than Rs 5 per pack.

IFTRT recently released data related to capacity utilization of truck fleets in India. On YOY basis, there is an approximate 25% drop in fleet utilization. Items like vegetables and fruits are also now less in demand. There is a 18% reduction in demand this category. High traffic industrial routes have seen a near 25% fall in truck demand. Several truck operators have downed the shutters. Truck rentals across the country have fallen (see graph).
